Precautions Before Use

Before using this product, please carefully read the following precautions. Waveshare Electronics assumes no liability for device damage or personal injury resulting from failure to comply with these instructions.

1. Personal Safety

  • This product contains small parts and sharp screws and is not suitable for children under 12 years of age.
  • Minors must use this product under adult supervision and guidance.
  • When the robotic arm is in motion, ensure no personnel are near its operating range to avoid collision injuries.
  • Joint motors may become hot after prolonged operation. Allow them to cool down before touching.

2. Installation and Use

  • This product is shipped as a fully assembled unit with complex internal structure and wiring. Disassembly is not recommended, as it may cause malfunctions after reassembly.
  • Do not operate the robotic arm unless the base is securely fixed, to prevent device damage or personal injury due to tipping.
  • The installation location must provide sufficient space for operation and maintenance, not less than the actual working range of the robotic arm.
  • Ensure the mounting surface can support the total weight of the unit:
    • RoArm-M2-GA weight (excluding edge clamp): 930±15 g
    • Edge clamp weight: 290±10 g
  • If the device shows obvious damage, abnormal noise, or excessive heat, stop using it immediately, troubleshoot the issue, and only then continue operation.

3. Environmental and Power Requirements

  • Operating Environment:
    • The robotic arm should be used in an environment between 0-40 °C, with humidity not exceeding 80% (non-condensing).
    • Avoid using in high-temperature, humid, or direct sunlight conditions.
  • Power Requirements:
    • It is recommended to use the official Waveshare 12V 5A power adapter or a 3S LiPo battery to ensure device safety.
    • If using a third-party power supply, verify that the voltage is within the operating range (7–12.6 V) and the discharge current is at least 5A; otherwise, unstable power or damage may occur.
    • Do not hot-plug any interfaces to prevent damage to the driver board or peripherals.
    • When the robotic arm is not in use for a while, first support the arm by hand, then turn the power switch to OFF and unplug the power adapter.

    Torque will be released immediately after power-off, and the robotic arm will droop due to gravity. Be sure to support it in advance to avoid sudden dropping that could damage the device or injure nearby personnel.

  • Ingress Protection: The device has an IP20 rating. Do not expose it to water sources or extreme weather conditions.

4. Servo and Joint Protection

  • Do not manually force the joints to their limit positions while the product is powered on; doing so will directly damage the servo gears.
  • If the servo output shaft cannot rotate properly due to external resistance during operation, stop immediately. A stalled state causes a sharp rise in current, and prolonged stalling may severely damage or burn out the servo.
  • Do not operate the robotic arm continuously under loads exceeding the maximum rated load; prolonged overload accelerates wear on servos and sensors and shortens service life.
  • Under high-load continuous operation, monitor servo temperature. It is recommended to pause every 30 minutes and allow the joints to cool before resuming use.
